GOOBUM — the "Goose Bumps" Bird Monster

GOOBUM is short for "GooseBumps". Takuma Hata built it around a change he kept seeing on the water: more and more bass are feeding on bait in the middle of the water column and staying there to do it. A wide-bodied worm designed for exactly that zone was what he felt the era needed.

The knife tail, the fork tail and the side arms all grab water on the smallest input, and together they throw off a layered, compound wave that is hard to ignore. On a straight retrieve alone it produces a complex, alive action — like a bird wheeling through open sky. When the prototype first swam, everyone on the development team got goose bumps. That is where the name came from.

The Belly Part: Brake and Stabiliser

A lower part on the belly accepts a rattle or a nail sinker, so you can tune it to the situation. It also does a second job: on a weightless rig it acts as a brake and stabiliser, keeping the body from rolling. On a jig-stroll it adds mass behind the deep joint-like ribs, letting the bait whip and slap water harder — the setting that gets the most out of the technique.

Suggested rigs: weightless offset (ZAPPU Bellows Hook #5/0) · ZAPPU Magnum Bredy #6/0 · jig-stroll on a ZAPPU Bow Head Jig.
Suggested tackle: 6'10"-7'4" MH-H baitcasting rod, HG reel, 16lb fluorocarbon.
