A light offshore baitcasting rod produced by Yamaoka—specifically designed for mini boats and kayak games where gear storage is at a premium.
The Oikaze 68 is a rod designed with a single focus: how to optimally operate a diverse selection of lures—such as Tai Rubber, jigs, Inchiku, and casting plugs for when a feeding frenzy (nabra) breaks out—all packed into a single small tackle box.
Additionally, the length of 6 feet 8 inches is crucial for kayak fishing. Because anglers must fight fish while seated and unable to move their position, this specific length is designed to allow them to clear the bow of the kayak and switch the rod between the left and right sides with ease. This maneuver becomes increasingly difficult as the rod gets shorter than 6'8", whereas a longer rod would compromise overall maneuverability.
To maintain maximum versatility, the recommended setup is PE #1 line paired with a 16–20 lb leader. For casting, it handles plugs up to the 1 oz class. For vertical games, it is best matched for weights around 100g, though it remains capable of handling up to a maximum of 140g for techniques like slow jigging and Tai Rubber.
