Do Not Reel It

Cover Waker looks like a buzzbait and is not one. It is a wire bait built purely for cover, a tribute to and an update of a near-mythical old American lure, and Imakatsu's own line about it is simply “do not reel it” — the bait works on jerks and pauses. What makes that possible is the high-buoyancy floating prop, which rides as a guard and gives the bait genuine snag resistance, so you can work it into brush, weed and surface trash. Because the hook sits in the water rather than tucked against a body, hook-up rates beat a frog.

Two Jerks and a Pause

The basic cadence is two jerks and a pause. On the jerk the prop throws a splash with a metallic chirp while the trailer shakes its head left and right just under the surface — sound and action together, pulling bass out from under cover. Swap the trailer worm and you can present a frog, a shrimp or a baitfish. The flare and vibration skirt in the package adds bulk without slowing the fall.
