WAZAMONO first release - a jointed bluegill swimbait that walks the dog.
Naoyuki Mihara built his reputation on two baits, the Gillroid Jr. and the Lazy Swimmer. For the first release under his own WAZAMONO brand he combined what he learned from both into the GilSoft 130, a bluegill-profile jointed swimbait.
Pausing a bait to draw the bite in cold water is a known tactic, but the jointed build lets the GilSoft 130 dart left and right - a movement rarely available in a soft swimbait. Twitch it in sequence and it walks like a hard bait, which keeps it in play through the high-activity season as well as through winter.
The point of going soft was hook-up ratio. On a tall-bodied hard bluegill bait the body depth and the hooks stop the lure short of the throat, and you are left with tooth marks on the head. A soft body compresses on the bite, so the hook gets through.
A side hook hanger is fitted on the flank: drop the belly hook and run a treble on the side when cover or the bite calls for it.
